This is an exciting piece of casting news! With only a few months to go till shooting, Zach Snyder’s Superman reboot, entitled Man of Steel, has reportedly added a new cast member. Variety reports that Russell Crowe is in final negotiations to play Jor-El. For those of you who don’t know, that is Superman’s biological father from Krypton, who sent his Son on course for planet Earth before Krypton was destroyed.

The role was previously played by Marlon Brando in Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie, and Crowe is certainly a worthy successor to give Henry Cavill’s Supes the guiding light he needs to become the hero he is destined to become. It’s an ace bit of casting that caused me to have a bit of a Geek-out, but oh well.

Crowe joins a cast which comprises of Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane. Expect to see Superman: Man of Steel in cinemas in December 2012!
