Thanks to Peter Jackson’s informative Facebook blog, today we have the news that Stephen Fry, or the walking Google, has joined the cast of The Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit.

Fry will be taking on the role of The Master of Laketown, who isn’t exactly thrilled to find Bilbo and his band of dwarves crossing his path. Jackson had this to say about the casting:

“I’ve known Stephen for several years, and we’re developing a Dambusters movie together. In addition to his writing skills, he’s a terrific actor and will create a very memorable Master for us.”

Along with Fry’s casting, Ryan Gage also joins the cast as the Master’s dodgy Civil Servant, Alfrid. Conan Stevens has also been added to the cast playing an Orc  by the name of Azgog.

The Hobbit is heading towards a planned production break which will allow for visual effects work to begin and to get started on planning for some of the more hefty, large-scale scenes of the movie. All’s going well it seems down in N.Z!
