Despite me, and I’m sure many others, finding Scream 4 one of the best, if not the best, sequel in the franchise, there was speculation as  to whether the franchise would continue. Scream 4 was intended as the start of a new trilogy, but the slightly disappointing US domestic box-office takings of $37 million, put the future of Scream in uncertainty.

But now comes the news from Harvey Weinstein that The Weinstien Comapny is happy with the numbers from overseas markets and that Scream 5 will happen. Here’s what he had to say:

Foreign [sales] are so strong that we’ll do over $100 million worldwide,” he said. “It’s at $90 now, with about five or six major countries to go and a lot of small ones. We’ll probably do $110 million. I wish it would have been better domestically. But it’s not the worst thing in the world that’s ever happened.

This is great news for fans of the franchise, and there’s more, Harvey Weinstein also stated that he is sure Wes Craven will direct the sequel. Happy Days for the Scream franchise then!
