The remake of the 1985 cult horror comedy Fright Night has unveiled its first trailer today! The movie follows Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) as Charlie, a young popular high-schooler, with good friends and a hot girlfriend. His life takes a sudden turn though when a new neighbour arrives in the form of Jerry (Colin Farrell). Charlie and his friend Evil Ed (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) soon begin to suspect that there is more than meets the eye with Jerry. They soon end up at the unbelievable conclusion that Jerry is actually a vampire. It’s up to Charlie, with the aid of Las Vegas showman Peter Vincent (David Tennant), to find a way to destroy Jerry in order to save the people he cares about.

The trailer gives the impression that there’s some decent material we’re not seeing yet, as there is barely any footage of David Tennant. The tone is much darker than the original movie, with very few laughs being present, but the action looks like it could be quite well constructed, even if the cinematography is rather murky and dark. But I reckon this could really be a remake that pays tribute to its original, yet also managing to stand as its own movie.

If you haven’t seen the original then I highly recommend it, it’s quite an underrated cult movie, that despite having aged quite a bit, it’s still a hugely enjoyable movie. Hopefully this remake will be in the same vein, we’ll find out when the movie hits cinemas on August 19th.
