First we’ve heard about this in a while, but it looks like Steven Spielberg’s Abraham Lincoln biopic is finally gathering some steam. Academy-Award Winning actress Sally Field has just joined the cast in the role of Mary Todd Lincoln, the wife of the 16th President of the United States.
Spielberg had this to say about the casting: “I’m excited to be working with Sally for the first time. I’ve admired her films and she has always been my first choice to portray all the fragility and complexity that was Mary Todd Lincoln.”
Field also commented on her recent casting, stating: “To have the opportunity to work with Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis and to play one of the most complicated and colorful women in American history is simply as good as it gets.”
Daniel Day-Lewis will be playing Lincoln, a role that Liam Neeson had to turn down last year due to how long development seemed to be going on for. But now it looks like Spielberg is set to begin filming the movie at the end of the year of a late 2012 release.
