After some degree of rumours jumping from Zod to Lex Luther, than back to Zod, then back to Lex, it turns out that the villain for the upcoming Superman reboot shall be General Zod, who was so memorably played by Terrence Stamp in the first two Superman movies. And the man who will be playing him will be Academy-Award nominee Michael Shannon, seen in the likes of Revolutionary Road, The Runaways and TV’s boardwalk Empire.
Director Zach Synder had this to say about the casting: “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”
Shannon is an excellent actor and I’m sure he will bring gravitas and the right amount of villainy in the role of Superman’s fellow Kryptonian nemesis, Zod. He joins the cast made up of Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner.
