It was reported on Friday that Joseph Gordon-Levitt had official signed on to re-team with his Inception director Christopher Nolan for the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises. At that stage it was unclear as to what role he would be playing, some bloggers speculating Robin, The Riddler, or Deadshot, who was one of the leading members of The League of Shadows in the Comics. Recent plot speculation has also been linked to the League of Shadows.

But now comes official news as to what role he is playing in the upcoming movie, and the role is Alberto Falcone, the son of the Mafia boss Carmine Falcone, who was played by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins. It links it very nicely to the first movie of the franchise, but as to what the introduction of this character means to the story remains to be seen.

The Dark Knight Rises is set to begin filming in May for a July 20th 2012 release.
