Casting news has begun for the currently untitled 23rd installment in the James Bond franchise. The news comes with the announcement that Oscar-winner Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men) has been offered a major role in the film.

He has gone down as saying: I’d be playing Bond’s nemesis, yes,” Bardem explains, “but it’s not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It’s very intriguing… They’re changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic.”

Hmmm, interesting. So it is a villain role, but something fresh from what he is hinting at here. Nothing has been made official yet, Bardem has said he is a big fan of the franchise but he wants to see a full script before signing on for anything. The said script is being written by Bond regulars Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and Gladiator scribe John Logan. It promises to follow soon after the events of Quantum of Solace.

The movie is set to be directed by Sam Mendes for a November 2012.
