Today it has been announced that the comedy legend Leslie Nielsen has passed away at the age of 84 due to complications related to pneumonia at his home in Florida. Nielsen shall be remembered for his incredibly sharp comic timing, managing to deliver any line, no matter what it is, with a straight face. My favourite movie of his shall always remain Airplane, but he’ll be remembered also for the role of Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun movies. He has cropped up in many parodies over the year, being the best thing about the last two Scary Movies. But in his early career, Nielsen was a much more serious actor, and was a leading man in the 1950’s in such films as Forbidden Planet and The Vagabond King. Here is a YouTube video featuring clips of the Canadian stars best films throughout his career. May he rest in peace.

Further news, director Irvin Kershner, the man behind what I believe to be the best Star Wars movie The Empire Strikes Back, has died at the age of 86. He was also responsible for Robocop 2 and unofficial Bond flick Never Say Never Again. Kershner fought in the Second World War before heading into the film business by becoming a film lecturer at the University of Southern California , when he moved in TV directing and photography in 1958. Rest in peace two legends of film.
