Casting rumours are in full swing for the upcoming Batman sequel, The Dark Knight Rises. Due to the fact that Bruce Wayne’s last love interest was slightly obliterated in The Dark Knight, one of the female roles up for grabs is the new love interest for Christian Bale’s Bruce, apparently he gets over Rachel soon enough.

Not only that but it turns out that there is another lead female role in the upcoming film, that of a female villain. This may mean a villain team up with whoever Tom Hardy’s character turns out to be, then again it hasn’t actually been officially confirmed that Hardy will be playing a villain. So we may have a villain team up, or a solo female villain.

There are supposedly six actresses in contention for the roles, who are Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, The Lovely Bones), Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean, Never Let Me Go), Naomi Watts (King Kong, You Will Meet a Talk Dark Stranger), Natalie Portman (V for Vendetta, Black Swan), Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada, Alice in Wonderland) and Blake Lively (Gossip Girl, Green Lantern).

I can see the likes of either Weisz or Portman as possibly Catwoman, but Christopher Nolan has made comment on the character before, stating he can’t really seeing it fit with his Batman universe. But then again, he is always one for being cryptic. Time will tell with this one, and the film still isn’t out until July 2012. Watch this space.
