Sony has offered the main villain in their upcoming Spider-Man reboot to British actor Rhys Ifans (The Boat that Rocked, Enduring Love). When first reported, it was unknown as to who Ifans would be playing, but now it appears he shall be playing Doctor Curt Conners, AKA, The Lizard.

My first thought about this casting is a sense of sympathy for Dylan Baker, who played Curt Conners in Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies but was never given his shot at finally turning into the villain his character eventually becomes. But Ifans is an excellent actor and is a great choice for a villain role and will hopefully put the memory of Dylan Baker out of mind and create something different.

Ifans joins Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy in the upcoming reboot under the direction of Marc Webb. Shooting begins in L.A. in December for a July 2012 release. Ifans can currently be seen in Mr. Nice now showing in cinemas.
