Darren Aronosfky, the man behind such films as Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler and the upcoming Black Swan, was recently in the shortlist for possible directors for the Superman reboot. Now that Zach Synder (see previous news report) has the job, it seems 20th Century Fox are wasting no time in offering Aronosfky one of their newest comic-book movies in the form of X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2.

Aronosfky is a very interesting choice and shows great signs for the movie if the studio is confident enough to offer the script (by Christopher McQuarrie of The Usual Suspects) to the highly acclaimed director. Plus, Aronosfky has a good working relationship with star Hugh Jackman already, having worked with him on The Fountain. Which I thought was a pile of rubbish but I do like his other films!

The first Wolverine was ok, it featured some excellent action scenes but there was a lot wrong with it in terms of story details and treatment of certain Marvel characters (Deadpool for one). But there has been great promise from everyone involved that this one will be better, with the action moving to Japan, where Wolverine will fall in love and have to face off against a family of Samurai warriors, if early story rumours are to be believed.

It is yet to be confirmed as to whether Aronosfky will accept the film, but I’ll keep you posted on any changes!
