At the recent Star Wars Celebration V, George Lucas announced that all six Star Wars movies will be released on Blu-Ray in the Autumn of 2011. Not only is this the first time the movies will be presented in high-definition, but it is also the first time the movies have been in one commemorative box set.

The Lucas film statement promised: “the highest possible picture and audio presentation, along with extensive special features – including documentaries, vintage behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, retrospectives and never-before-seen footage from the Lucasfilm archives.”

“Blu-ray is the absolute best way to experience Star Wars at home – in pristine high-definition,” said George Lucas of the release, “The films have never looked or sounded better.”

It is still unclear as to whether the Blu-Ray release will be of the original version of the movies or the updated special editions of the original trilogy, may even turn out to be both. But due to the fan’s reaction of those special editions, I imagine it will either just be the original or both versions.
